The 8 Valve had 4 valves per cylinder in hemispherical heads and domed pistons for high compression performance. The speeds these purpose built racing bikes attained on the long high banked tracks was over 100 MPH. Suspension and brakes did not exist and mufflers were not yet invented. AMA did not approve brakes until 1965.
