Description
GMP 1970 McLaren M8 B high wing race car Dan Gurney Chevy Can Am race car in 1:18 scale, with original boxes and photo. This beautiful, like-new, 9-inch-long car has great color and details. The box shows light storage wear. Gurney won the first two races of the year but had to give up his ride because of sponsor conflicts. This car and its predecessors and successors were developed by Bruce McLaren.

The car dominated the Can Am series until the arrival of the Porsche 917 in the early 70s. The V8 Chevy engines started at 630 HP and eventually increased to a maximum of 670 HP. Bruce McLaren lost his life on June 2, 1970, during a test session of the M8 D at the Goodwood Circuit in England, when some bodywork lifted off the car at speed. The loss of downforce caused the high-speed fatal crash. Bruce won the Can Am Championship in 1967 and 1969. The 1968 and 1970 Can Am Championships were won by Denny Hulme in an M8 A and D, and Peter Revson won the 1971 Championship in an M8F. The last Can Am McLaren win would be in 1972.
