Shelby approached Chevy for engines, but GM turned him down, not wanting competition for their Corvette. He decided on Ford and eventually went to the 427. The Shelby Cobra Daytona made its debut in 1964. Six aerodynamic cars were built for Daytona 24, Sebring 12, and Le Mans 24.
