Description

Cox 1954–55 Mercedes W 196 .049 gas-powered tether race car in 1:16 scale, complete with tether arm and copies of factory instructions. Made in the USA in 1961 and in good condition for its age.

The model appears lightly used and measures 13.5 inches long. The engine turns and has compression. It includes a custom tether bracket and copies of factory instructions. The windshield and right-side mirror have been replaced.

The Cox Mercedes W 196 models the Mercedes Benz factory F1 racing “Silver Shadow” race car, which debuted at the 1954 French Grand Prix. After winning two World Championships and nine of the 12 races entered, the original race car was retired after the 1955 Le Mans wreck that killed 84 people. One of the original cars recently sold for 29.8 million pounds.
