Description

This 1:18 scale model represents the 1962 Kurtis Kraft Indy 500 roadster driven by Jim Rathmann and modified by master mechanic Smokey Yunick for the Indianapolis 500. It was the 110th and final Indy car built by Frank Kurtis. The wing was used during practice several times before being discarded for a more conventional roadster configuration; a rule change prohibited the wing the following year. Yunick also modified the rear suspension in a design similar to the independent rear suspension used on the Cooper Climax.

All three original boxes and a certificate of authenticity are included. The represented car finished ninth in the race, which was won by Rodger Ward. The removable wing is included, and the hood opens to reveal the Offenhauser engine. Jim Rathmann later became a Chevrolet/Cadillac dealer in Melbourne, Florida, where he sold Corvettes to astronauts.
