Description
Exoto 1966 Penske Chevy L88 Corvette Stingray #6 Daytona 24 model, driven by Dick Guldstrand, George Wintersteen, and Ben Moore to GT-class victory. This approximately 9-inch L88 Corvette race car is presented in its original box and has several fully removable panels that reveal detailed components and the 427 engine.
This was Roger Penske’s first entry as a car owner. Penske had purchased a Chevrolet dealership in Philadelphia after being asked to retire from driving, with the goal of building a first-class racing team. He recalled receiving $250 to add several Sunoco decals to the car.
The class win was hard fought. Following Duntov’s advice, Penske used Guldstrand as the lead driver. Early in the endurance race, the front end was knocked off the car. The team complied with the rules through the night by taping several sets of two flashlights to the front. The Corvette finished 12th overall and won the GT class.
