1940’s original Papina P3 tether race car .60 Hornet 17 in. long SOLD
$ 2,599.00 $ 2,299.99
THIS CAR IS SOLD 1940's rare Papina P3 .60 Hornet gas powered tether race car. One of the West Coast's more prolific manufacturer, just behind Dooling and McCoy, was Al Papina. The P3 plastic bodied (bakelite) cars were a great success and often figured in the race results in the late 1940's. Mostly fitted with the Hornet .60 the cars had a Magnesium pan with simulated knock offs cast in the wheels. Orders did not seem to be a problem as they were sold in kit form for $27.50 but the replacement parts thru the dealers were a problem and lead to the demise of the company in 1949. Al Papina was different in that he was a good race driver in his own right in the 1930's midget circuits, Later as a car owner, he had Freddie Agabashian, and other notable drivers. Rarely seen these cars are among the hardest to find. This one looks lightly used and sports nice original wheels, and C-R racing tires and ball bearing knife edge fronts.Needs tank and electronics.
